There was a real buzz on Friday night for the Sew Sociable 2nd birthday party. Our special guests were Project Linus. We always have a great night with Project Linus who have been to the event twice before. This was no exception.
The charity makes quilts for children who ‘need a hug’. They came prepared with cut panels for a quilt. This time the shape was called ‘jars’. Once the panel was complete the effect is like a jar of fruit, veg, bugs or what ever is featured on the centre panel.
With the help of a piece of woolly fabric as the panels got completed and added we watched the size of the quilt grow.
You can’t have a birthday party without cake! Whilst stitching everyone was invited to tuck into a cupcake or two! It only took a few minutes before the cakes started to disappear, so I didn’t quite manage a piccy with all the cakes in! It was a lovely almost empty stand by the end of the night.
We also gave out goody bags to the first twenty people to arrive. The bags were supplied by our favorite bag making charity Morsbags They were filled with sewing essentials from Nova trimmings, Tracy from Sew Nothings Impossible gave a beautiful embroidered Sew Sociable key fob and I added a fat quarter with fabric discount code for my new online fabric range at Bobbinsnbuttons.
By the end of the evening the quilt had grown into a size at least big enough to make one quilt if not two. There were more panels not added at this point. A great evening.
Next month I will be running a sew along to make a handy sewing tool roll. Something you can fill with all the essentials and grab as you leave for Sew Sociable events! Some materials will be provided but you may prefer to bring your own and make in fabric of your preference. I will publish what you need in the newsletter and on our facebook page before the next event.
